August Podcast RoundUp: Back-to-School

Welcome to our Monthly Podcast Roundup—our monthly check-in on hot opportunities for advertisers.

August is here which means that summer is winding down, kids are heading back-to-school, and parents, teachers and administrators are all learning to find balance within our collective new normal. But, even though schedules are filling up and obligations are multiplying, the summer fun does not have to end! Our August podcast picks remind us that parenting doesn’t always have to be so serious, and that it’s never too late to learn something new.

Manatomy

manatomy Our first pick comes from all the way across the pond, where comedians and “Manatomy” hosts Danny Wallace and Phil Hilton sit down every week with funny guests to talk about masculinity, fatherhood, and, well, their bodies. From the weird insecurities to the tiny triumphs, Wallace and Hilton take an honest look at “manhood” and unpack hilarious phenomena such as dad bods, damaged pride and the magnetic appeal of cheese. Listeners will laugh, gasp, and hopefully learn to be a little bit gentler with themselves. Who among us couldn’t benefit from that?

The Deep Dive

deep dive Circling back stateside, our next August selection is hosted by Earwolf royalty: comedians and actors June Diane Rapheal (Grace and Frankie) and Jessica St. Clair (Bridesmaids). In the Earwolf world, Raphael is best known as one third of the trio responsible for “How Did This Get Made,” the wildly popular podcast about movies that are so bad you can’t help but laugh, and St. Clair has had recurring roles on iconic shows like Comedy Bang Bang, Improv4Humans, and BitchSesh since 2010. And now, in their new weekly show “The Deep Dive,” the two have joined forces to delve into important topics such as motherhood, feminism, Megan Markle and, of course, crystals. Moms and listeners of all types will howl with laughter at these unfiltered, lighthearted conversations.

The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey

happy hour with jamie ivey Shifting from the hilarious to the uplifting, “The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey” looks at life through the eyes of some of the nation’s strongest Christians. Each week, these guests talk about their spirituality, their relationships, and their families—offering nuggets of wisdom they picked up along the way. Conversations around everything from life’s simplest pleasures to the grandest may be encouraging and grounding to listeners seeking comfort amidst the chaos of August.

Periodic Talks

Though that doesn’t mean that we can’t learn a new thing or two! In the Stitcher original podcast “Periodic Talks,” actors Gillian Jacobs (Community, Netflix’s Love) and Diona Reasonover (NCIS) embrace their curiosity and engage with astronauts, astrophysicists, mathematician-types and other really smart people to learn more about some of the STEM subjects they missed in school.

Science Rules!

Powell, field experts, and special celebrity guests, Bill Nye takes listener calls and answers all your burning science questions.

LeVar Burton Reads

In each episode, host and American treasure LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow, Star Trek) hand-picks a different piece of short fiction, and reads it aloud in his steady and familiar voice.
