#MusicForMom: Your Mother’s Day Mixtape

Two weeks ago, we asked our advertising community to get personal with us. We wanted to learn more about the way music influences their relationship with mom. So, with Mother’s Day coming up, we launched a quick survey asking questions like: How do you listen with your mom? Who is your favorite celebrity mom-artist? What song reminds you most of motherhood?

Over one hundred respondents later, we have gleaned some interesting insights about the role music plays in a mother-child bond. Plus, we took all your song submissions at the end of the survey and created a special #MusicForMom Mixtape so you can enjoy some hand-selected tunes this Mother's Day.

Here are the key takeaways from what you told us about music and mom. We’re also curious to know if these answers resonate with you, or if you feel completely differently. So, don’t be shy and tweet us at @PandoraBrands to share.

Listeners love all sorts of musician moms, from Celine Dion and Bette Midler, to Gwen Stefani and Yoko Ono, to Whitney Houston and Adele! However, of the choices provided, it’s clear that Queen B still reigns. While most respondents do listen to music with their mom, the majority don’t share the same taste in music. Although, 20% of respondents did report that their mother “taught them everything they know” about music. Not surprisingly, respondents’ favorite music genres to listen to with mom are the most timeless ones: oldies, classical and gospel. Pop made the list too, with 17% saying they’re most likely to listen to popular hits with their mother. Respondents were most likely to listen to music with their mom while driving in the car, yet many also reported listening while hanging out at home or attending family gatherings or parties. We were sad to see that most respondents don’t often experience live music with their moms, but excited that many are listening via a streaming music service, like Pandora.
