Welcome to our Power of Audio Podcast. This episode is part of our Pandora Presents Pass the Mic series—an initiative that amplifies women’s voices in the audio industry and explores how audio has played a role in their success.
June is PRIDE month. In celebration of LGBTQ+ artists and the incredible contributions the community has made on both a global scale and specifically within the audio industry, we spoke with guitarist, gay rights activist, author, and icon: Kristen Ellis-Henderson.
Kristen Ellis-Henderson’s powerhouse rock band Antigone Rising has toured across the globe, opening for legends such as the Rolling Stones. Ellis-Henderson pioneered an initiative of female empowerment that began with an international state department to the middle east and evolved into the inspirational non-profit organization and music festival, Girls Rising.
Tune in to Kristen’s episode for a candid-yet-lighthearted conversation on:
Navigating gender bias in the music industry
Authoring her memoir, “Times Two, Two Women in Love and The Happy Family They Made” about getting pregnant on the same day as her wife
Gracing the cover of Time Magazine’s marriage equality issue with her wife, Sarah Kate
The importance of amplifying and supporting other women
Founding her own music festival, Girls Rising Festival
To support the Girls Rising initiative, and the empowerment of young girls and LGBTQ youth, your contribution will support partnerships with school districts and youth centers to create innovative programming that inspires through live performances, presentations and workshops.
Additionally, due to the limitations of in-person gatherings at this time, Girls Rising is hosting virtual events every Thursday at 3pm, as part of their Girls Rising Virtual Connect series.
